Grassroot Privacy Initiative (GPI) at The DialogueTM aims to create a vault of resources that is accessible and discernable at the last mile, aiding people to exercise the fundamental right to privacy and data protection.
While people realise the right to privacy at an abstract level, it is detached from reality due to the gap in access to clear and understandable information. Therefore, our vision is to bridge the gap through hosting resources like videos, primers, handbooks etc., that break down the concept of privacy at the individual as well as the collective level and how it affects us in layman’s terms. Not limiting the access to the information only to the English-speaking urban population, some of the resources are translated into Hindi and will be translated into prominent regional languages like Tamil, Marathi, Bengali, etc.
As we are at the cusp of enacting India’s Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019, through these primers, we try to engage with some of the nuanced issues with the bill and put forth recommendations through our analysis.
These handbooks dissect a range of technical issues and explore the right to privacy through various perspectives focusing on specific sectors and sections of citizenry.
To promote deeper insight on privacy amongst the public, we have carefully put together some informatory, explanatory, and anecdotal videos.
